Road Trip Thailand - Nakhon Nayok to Phitsanulok |
Whatever has happened to the weather.? We awoke to heavy rain which lasted a couple of hours. After having breakfast, we took off and thankfully, it stopped raining. This was to be another 4 1/2 hour drive covering roughly 400 kilometres and we arrived at the Phitsanulok around 2:30 pm. The stop here was always going to be a forced stop as we did not expect that there was much to see in this area. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel which was totally acceptable for road trippers and was clearly very well run. We went in search of a restaurant nearby for dinner later and found a very local place that we thought would do run by a pleasant middle-aged lady who spoke some English. In order to get a feel for the place, we stuck around for a couple of beers and decided if we didn't find anywhere else we would come back later. We did have a look on Trip Advisor and discovered a well-rated restaurant that was just around the corner from the hotel. We went in search but alas, despite the fact that it was Saturday night, it was closed. We were alongside the River Nan and we decided to walk a little further but found nothing and vowed to go back to the local restaurant we had seen earlier. As we got close, we saw another modern-looking restaurant named The Tangluck that seemed busy so we stepped inside. This proved to be quite a find as the food was great, the ambience was fantastic and the cost very reasonable and we were made to feel very welcome. There was seating inside and outside but we were advised to sit inside in a place that reminded us of an Orangerie. As we ate dinner, it started to rain and rain and rain and we were wondering how we were going to get back to the hotel when the owner came over to ask if we had enjoyed our meal which of course we had. "No problem", he said, "I can get you a taxi". The taxi arrived and we arrived back at our hotel safe, sound and dry!
