Singapore shophouses

Part of Singapore's heritage are the shophouses that are still prevalent in many areas despite the additional of many modern skyscrapers to the city's skyline. As in other parts of Asia, such as Phuket and Penang the traditional shophouse is in a row and has a narrow frontage. the so called "five foot way" is a covered passage running across the front of the building. They usually have skylights and an internal courtyard. Malay, Chinese and European influences can all be seen in this rich, architectural style.

The following photos and more are available for purchase at ALAMY. Enter "Singapore shophouse" as the search string. Enter just "shophouse" to see shophouses from other areas too.
