The Erawan Shrine, Bangkok, Thailand

The Erawan Shrine, formally the Thao Maha Phrom Shrine ("Shrine of Lord Brahma the Great"), is a shrine in Bangkok, Thailand, which houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. It often features performances by Thai dance troupes who are hired by worshippers in return for seeing their prayers answered at the shrine. Wikipedia

A Virtual Tour of Thailand - Ranong

Today we are in the Southern province of Ranong on the Andaman Sea which has a border with Myanmar. It is officially the wettest province in the country but you wouldnt know that from this photo taken on Koh Phayam an island just off the coast.

A Virtual Tour of Thailand Samut Songkhram Province

All this virtual touring has made us feel a bit hungry so we have dropped in at the floating market at Amphawa in Samut Songkhram province which is about 60km west of Bangkok. This is more of a local Thai floating market than the very touristy Damnoen Saduak one.

Tak Province lies in the lower north of Thailand and borders Myanmar on its Western side. The border at Mae Sot is an important crossing for the movement of goods and people. Tak also houses a large number of refugees, notably Karen, from Myanmar in camps. Many Thais have Chinese ancestry and temples like this can be found all over Thailand.

Bangkok is, of course, the largest and capital city of Thailand and is located in the centre of the country on the Chao Phraya river. Millions of tourists visit each year to take sights such as the Grand Palace, Wat Arun and the magnificent Wat Pho, the home of Thai massage. It is located next to the Grand Palace and is, of course, a massive tourist attraction. The place is beautiful with many stunning structures.

Virtual Tour of Thailand - Chumphon Province

Chumphon Province

Chumphon is a Southern Province on the Gulf of Thailand and is not really on the tourist map although some intrepid tourists have discovered its latent charms. There are some beautiful beaches of which the largely undeveloped Thung Wua Len pictured above is one. The province is famous for its coffee and there are also many durian fruits and coconut plantations. The province is known as the “Gateway to the South”.

A virtual tour of Thailand - Chiang Rai Province

Chiang Rai Province

This is the fairytale castle-like Wat Rong Khun on the outskirts of Thailand’s second-largest city. The original temple has been completely renovated by Chalermchai Kositpipat, a local artist from Chiang Rai, using his own finances. The project is ongoing and is used to promote Buddhist teachings. The temple has become a huge tourist attraction and receives hundreds of thousands of visitors a year.
