St Patricks Day has been observed in Australia ever since the Governor of New South Wales Lachlan Macquarie declared it an official day of celebration. Every year a parade is organised by the St Patrick's Day Parade Organization. Australian Irish comprise almost 10% of the total Australian population so it is not surprising that Irish traditions are maintained in this way.
